The ZOLL AED Plus defibrillators perform weekly self-tests to ensure all components are working as they should be. It will confirm it's readiness status by presenting a green tick or red cross in the indicator window as shown below:

If the ZOLL AED successfully passes the self-test, it will display a green tick mark, whereas if it fails, it will display a red cross.

Batteries And Electrode Pads

The CRPD Pads (supplied with the defibrillator as standard) have a 5-year shelf life and are equipped with an expiry date, printed on the packaging. The batteries are Duracell batteries, these have a > 10-year shelf life and a > 5-year in-device life.

The AED will alert you when the batteries require replacing. It will alert you by presenting a red cross in the indication window. The red cross will also be accompanied by an audible beeping sound that is similar to a household smoke alarm. The defibrillator will alert you to replace batteries when there is still sufficient energy in the device for > 9 full energy shocks.

Replacing Batteries

The ZOLL AED Plus will prompt "if new batteries, press button". Please ensure you press this button as shown in the diagram as above. If you do not press this button, the device will not know you have changed the batteries and will continue to show a red cross and beep.

You can repeat the above steps if your device is not showing the green tick.

Manual Self-Test

The AED Plus can go through a forced self-test, if necessary. This can be initiated by pressing and holding the unit's On/Off button for 5 seconds. The defibrillator will illuminate all the graphic indicators and issue voice and LCD display messages to allow user verification of the device's visual and auditory output functionality. In addition, the LCD screen also shows the application software version currently running on the unit.
