More time is being spent at home than ever before due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

 By staying at home we are helping to control the spread of COVID-19. Sadly, there is no vaccination against Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and no one is immune.

According to the Resuscitation Council, approximately 200 cardiac arrests take place every day in the UK. 80% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) occur at home where defibrillators are usually unavailable.

Having a defibrillator in the home equips you to save a family member or friend's life in a cardiac emergency.

The average response time for an ambulance to arrive to the scene of a cardiac emergency is 11 minutes. This is currently increased due to the pressures as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. 



Defibrillators for Home Use

Sudden Cardiac Arrest does not discriminate. Anyone can experience a cardiac arrest at any time or place. 90% of SCA's are fatal due to a lack of effective treatment.

A shock from a defibrillator combined with CPR within 3-5 minutes of the SCA taking place is required to treat a person in cardiac arrest.  

Chance of survival is reduced by 10% for every minute that passes without defibrillation. 

Ensuring there is an accessible defibrillator within the home allows you to deliver potentially life-saving treatment to a person in cardiac arrest prior to the emergency services arriving. This significantly increases the chance of survival from 6% to 74%.

Anyone can use a defibrillator to provide life-saving treatment, regardless of whether or not they are trained to do so. Voice prompts and visual cues guide the rescuer through the process, making it as simple as possible.
