What does an ECG test involve?
Although it is called a 12 Lead ECG, only 10 electrodes are used to get the 12 traces. The small electrodes are attached to specific parts of the arms, legs, and chest. The electrodes are connected by wires to the ECG machine which picks up the electrical signals that make your heart beat. The electrical activity is recorded and printed onto paper or saved as a PDF onto your computer.
The test is simple and straightforward, taking just a few minutes to complete. It's important to lie as still as possible as moving affects results.
There are certain seca ECG machines that offer an on-screen preview. This avoids wasting paper on a bad ECG as you are able to check that it's good quality before printing.
