The 'i' button on the front of the Philips HS1 unit provides users with additional help when pressed. Both the battery and pads have expiry dates printed on each item for reference.

Self-Tests

The HS1 performs a daily self-test to ensure the device is always in optimum working order. In addition to this, a battery insertion self-test is run whenever the battery unit is installed in the device. The unit has a ready light which alerts the owner if there is an issue with the device. If the ready light is off and the device is chirping along with the 'i' button flashing a self-test error has occurred. This could be a problem with the pads or the battery power being low. You should press the 'i' button for instructions.

However, if the ready light is off, the device is not chirping and the 'i' button is not flashing, this signals that there is either no battery inserted, the battery has depleted or the defibrillator requires a repair. You should insert/ replace the battery and run a manual self-test. As long as the HeartStart passes the self-test, you can be assured it is ready for use.

Electrode Pad Information

If the pad cartridge has been tampered with, this may expose the electrode pads. As soon as the pads have been opened and exposed, they are unusable.
