Awareness on Sudden Cardiac Arrest

With a busy warehouse and office daily, Jaimie Pendleberry, the Production Manager at Aquamatic knows all about the importance of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and the importance of having defibrillators in the workplace.

SCA is a medical condition that occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating. This happens due to an electrical malfunction in the heart that disrupts its normal rhythm, leading to a loss of blood flow to the brain and other vital organs. Without prompt medical intervention such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation, SCA is fatal within minutes.

Why Do We Need Defibrillators?

Defibrillators are medical devices used to treat life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, such as ventricular fibrillation (VF) and pulseless ventricular tachycardia (VT). These conditions disrupt the heart's ability to pump blood effectively to the vital organs including the brain, leading to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)

Jaimie and the team have their defibrillator stored on a wall bracket just before the entrance of the warehouse. He explained ‘We take the health of our staff at Aquamatic very seriously and are aware of the risks cardiac arrest can bring as it really can happen to anyone at anytime’

Time is essential during SCA

Every second counts when someone suffers a SCA, making timing a crucial factor in the chain of survival. Administering CPR promptly is vital to sustaining blood circulation and oxygenation to the body's organs, particularly the brain. This underscores the critical importance of bystander CPR in increasing the likelihood of survival until professional help arrives.

The use of a defibrillator significantly improves survival rates. The sooner defibrillation is administered within 3-5 minutes increases survival chances from 6% to 74%.

Jamie is hoping other businesses can follow Aquamatic into installing life saving defibrillators and equipment in and around the workplace so in the event of a cardiac emergency they have given that person the best chance of survival.

We will continue to support Jamie and Aquamatic with all their defibrillator supplies and knowledgeable needs.
